Keerthana Jayakumar

Artist member since 2019
Beeton, Ontario

Keerthana is an artist living in the small town of Beeton, Ontario. Her sources of inspiration are poetry and classical Indian literature.

Her painting series named Majnun features doves in Old Delhi. She was inspired by the use of doves as a poetic device to symbolize mourning and loss in ancient Ummayad Arabic poetry (Ghazals).

She is currently working on a Ragamala series following the ancient Indian tradition of assigning images to musical modes. Each musical mode or Raag has a mood, a time of day and a season attached to it.

Born in Chennai, India, Keerthana has chosen to set most of her paintings in her hometown. Some of her collections are inspired streets and localities such as thousand lights and Besant nagar.
